Sander van Doorn – ‘Eleve11′

Sander van Doorn – ‘Eleve11′

No one does ‘different’ like Van Doorn… However it’s only stridently different if you perceive Sander as a trance artist. Many of course don’t. Viewed from our side of the floor-fence though he’s Mr. Diverse, Mr. Original and Mr. Burn The Rulebook. The artist you never quite know what you’re going to get from. For every super-strung festival-incinerator like ‘Koko’, there’s something darker, more scene-subversive – the OMD-nodding ‘Love is Darkness’ exemplifying that. Those tracks, by no coincidence whatsoever, are the first two station stops on his sophomore album, ‘Eleve11′.

‘Koko’ was one of Trance International’s summer ’11 high spots, sporting a truly original take on the euphoric trance track. Displaying the same set of convictions is ‘Nano’, whose wonderfully nuanced production (impressively packing in at least 3 floor-gripping moments in its runtime) is the album’s second trance lightning strike.
As the listener delves deeper, ‘Eleve11′s music-without-borders appeal unsurprisingly stretches much further afield. The Tom Helsen sung ‘Believe’ seemingly ducks under the EDM perimeter altogether, roaming onto Coldplay-ish terrain. Actual production team-ups don’t seem to be ‘Eleve11′s priority, but when they hit, they hit hard. ‘Rollin’ The Dice’ is Van Doorn’s hard-rocking collab with Sidney Samson and adding further weight to it, it features intriguing story-tell lyrics and no-nonsense vocals from Grammy-nommed Nadia Ali. On Sander’s Laidback Luke co-production, you’d not unreasonably expect to find the House card being played some. Surprising then that there’s not much more than a whiff of it on ‘Who’s Wearing The Cap’. What you do get is a cyclonic monster that builds inexorably, finally blazing into a tech-trancer TKO post the break. Given Sander and Luke’s much-remarked-upon, could-be-twins resemblance, it does make you wonder if they’ve ever been photographed together! The video to the single should be interesting!

Keeping that techier angle in the spotlight is ‘Drink To Get Drunk’ – a title that may well have resonance for the seasoned Doornians among you. The track was originally sung by SiA (who featured in remix form on ‘Supernaturalistic’, with Sander’s rejack of her similarly addiction-themed, ‘The Girl You Lost To Cocaine’) back around the turn of the millennium. Jenny Lindfors was tasked with covering SiA’s introspective lyrics and Sander has turned up the power on the synths, injecting the track with plenty of big room wallop and giving it a cheeky Prodigy nod in the process. Not, it has to be said, quite a cheeky as ‘Slap My Pitch Up’, whose snapping percussion and all-round dirty-distrotion sound set-up make it one of the most avant-garde tracks on the album.

spinninrecords.com

Few would go into a listening experience like ‘Eleve11′ expecting convention, but the flexibility of the sound-design is what makes it what it is. ‘Imaginative’, ‘Creative’ and ‘Polished’ are the keywords and in those respects if delivers!

Spinnin have given us the nod on 11 (natch!) signed copies of Eleve11 to giveaway. All you have to to do to be in with a chance of bagging and tagging one is tell us which of the following ISN’T a Sander track?!

1) Punk’d
2) Apple
3) Born Slippy

W&W – ‘Impact’

Back in the day if you formed a trance production group, chances are it came about by bumping into someone at a studio, sharing a class at university or a chance meet in a record label office. It’s very much a sign of latter times that – as is well documented now – W&W ran into each other at that church of the masses, 2007′s Trance Energy. Immense in every sense, anyone who ever went knows (and those that didn’t can easily imagine) that a couple of metres to the left or right and who knows, W&W could have gone down as a king-sized near miss! Serendipity shone though and they became the first of the nu (nu!) skool to go stellar. Likely enshrined in the mind of every bedroom trance-producing-studio-head out there, W&W are (in trance terms at least) ultimate wish fulfilment.

Just 4 years on from that incredible fortuitous bump-into, they’ve arrived at their first album. In order to ensure ‘Impact’ lands the necessary punches, Willem and Ward have boxed clever to create a knockout 2-disc’er. The first one kicks of with ‘Do Not Skip’ – a message-in-a-title if ever there was one. Its fizzing, contemporary electro-lined theme is probably designed to shake up a few W&W perceptions good and early in the game. From there the album locks and loads with the likes of ‘Impact’, ‘Phantom’, ‘Cookie Jar’ & (literally!) ‘AK47′. Club amunition of the heaviest calibre, they’re probably as clear a representation of the known W&W sound as you can get. How about some collabs you (likely) cry?! Well there are a fair fewalong for the ride… Staying in-country with an all Dutch line-up, ‘Twist’ sees them back in the studio with M6, Leon Bolier’s in for a round 2 too (after ‘Saturn’) with ‘Treasure Chest’ and the Ummet Ozcan team-up ‘Velicity’ is a floor firebrand. The vocals flow good and early too with the enigmatic, tones of Ana Criado (on ‘Three O’Clock’) and ‘Nowhere To Go’ (described as an “eargasm” by one effusive YouTube commentator) featuring the searching, utterly sensational vocals of Bree.

The Ws have long applied something of a release-now, remix-later methodology to their tracks. That policy comes into its own on ‘Impact’. The second disc declares open season on their past, present and future catalogue. A host of up-and-comers – Tenishia, MaRLo, Wezz Devall and Taylor and Close among them – have gone hard at it re-crafting tracks like ‘Alpha’, ‘Impact’, ‘Dome’ and (the one that started it all) ‘Mustang’. In an amongst this new panoramic remixverse, its hard to pick an all-out winner. Russia’s Craving could be in with a shout though, having done an almighty job of infusing ‘Manhattan’ with a type of skyscraping sweep the titular metropolis would be proud of.

Debut in the bag, Willem and Ward have been good enough to furnish Trance International with 10 copies (count ‘em!), which are currently stacked up high on the office desk. We’re longing to despatch them to far-flung corners so 10 of you are gonna get lucky and win one! To get your name in that particular hat, tell us the name of your own favourite W&W collaboration!

Danny Spice Feat. Craig G: King Of The Beat

Artists: Danny Spice Feat. Craig G
Title: King Of The Beat
Label: Carry On Going Records
Cat Number: COG003
Format: MP3/7inch Vinyl

Vinyl purists Carry On Going Records bring you a slice of undiluted boom bap beats laced with hard knock rhymes from NY’s finest.

“King Of The Beat” lifted from Danny Spice’s soon to be released debut full length “King Amongst Thieves” sees Juice Crew legend Craig G droppin’ science over a drum heavy drama & suspense style track.

Quote “Queens Bridge to UK/dudes say they make beats/but compared to us/you just coming wit dat fake heat”. Craig’s lines pay respect to both the producer as well as the age old art of crate digging. Having worked with the likes of Marley Marl, Large Professor, Pete Rock & DJ Premier to name but a few it’s no wonder the NY battle rapper is still going strong after 25 years in the business. No added preservatives here just pure uncut Hip Hop in its purist form some break beats, turn tables a sampler and an ill MC job done.

The limited edition individually hand numbered 300 pressing of the 7inch vinyl release has almost sold out in a matter of days, which gives you some indication of how big this track actually is! This is real Hip-Hop that bangs from start to finish produced by a talented beat-maker!

Make sure you are on the lookout for the full length album “King Amongst Thieves” from Danny Spice being released on Carry On Going Records real soon.

Rediculus releases new Masters of Conversation project Punchlines and Parables

The talented producer from Chicago is releasing his new project to the thrill of his fans around the world.

Rediculus has released the next edition of his Masters of Conversation production series titled Punchlines and Parables, quickly following up his critically acclaimed Walking Down Broken Paths instrumental album and marking the 4th edition of the production series. Rediculus, who resides in Chicago, Illinois, just put the final touches on the last mixes literally a few weeks ago and is now preparing to delight his fans with his latest studio album which he hopes will expand his fan base and get his music heard by more people around the globe.

The first single, “Halo (Pain is Love)” which was released last month to rave reviews, features a hard blaring horn sample with a neck snapping snare to drive the track and longtime collaborator and fellow Chicagoan Prome on the microphone dropping lyrical napalm on the track.

The new single “Picture Perfect” has a soulful backdrop and smooth knocking drums and features verses from vocal giants Sha Stimuli, Sadat X of Brand Nubian fame and Emilio Rojas spitting nothing short of classic verses.

The album, “Masters of Conversation: Punchlines and Parables”, is 17 tracks all produced by Rediculus and features some of hip hop’s hottest MC’s such as Ruste Juxx, Craig G, Sha Stimuli, Emilio Rojas, Chubb Rock, Koncept and The Audible Doctor from Brown bag All Stars, Big Dutty Deeze, Chaundon, Notoriety, Stumik Icewater, Sadat X, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Red Eye, Pair-a-Dyce, Nine and many more.

The album itself is both a return to the “Golden Era” and a glimpse into the future of hip hop. Soulful samples scream and wail throughout the project, backed by growling bass lines and driving drum tracks with custom kicks and snares that showcase the wide variety of influences in Rediculus’s life and music.

Rediculus is quoted as describing the project with the following statement; “This album is going to really make people think about what they listen to and show people that you can reach consumers without watering down our culture. We have a host of people in the culture who are over 30 and want music that they can relate too, something with more substance that addresses the issues in their lives. The current trend of making songs about negative images backed by empty music is coming to an end and this project should definitely help drive the nails into that coffin. People want something smarter and I’m here to give it to them”

The album is digitally distributed globally by Island/Def Jam and will include several limited edition runs of physical copies, with a UK exclusive edition containing a few remixes Rediculus did for Big Dutty Deeze and American exclusive artwork for his US edition. People are encouraged to follow Rediculus on Twitter, keep in touch with him on Facebook, check out his Bandcamp page and visit his website for more information and to keep up on the latest news with Rediculus and all of Knowledge Giving Birth Productions.

Ruinz Ason ‘Post Man’ (Music Video):

Champions Breakfast is the 4th Release by South London artist Ruinz Ason and is produced by brother and producer J-Flames. The nine track EP is released off the back of the acclaimed 2010 album entitled ‘Hood- starz And Villains’ released in collaboration with New York DJ and Funk Master Flex Prote?ge?e DJ Technic (Zackery Walls). Ruinz has received airplay on Choice FM and 1xtra and his last single ‘Calling’ reached number 3 in the Flava TV music video charts. In an album review by RWD MAG, Hattie Collins described Ruinz Ason as ‘UK Hip-Hop at its best!’ and also went on to compare Ruinz Ason to UK Hip-Hop heavyweights Sway and Klashnekkoff.

Champions breakfast does not disappoint and delivers even more character, intensity and oxy-morons that listeners have come to now expect from the talented artist who has supported such acts as Ms Dynamite and legendary New York rapper Keith Murray.
